The Baltimore Wire

At the risk of raising the blood pressure of the Mayor of Baltimore, Recess Monkey or Chris Grayling…

This map shows the crimes committed along the route of the Baltimore marathon (click here to enlarge):

Baltimore Marathon Route

Imagine looking for a house in Baltimore – I’d probably avoid the two sections in yellow, wouldn’t you?

And if I had an elected police chief, I might ring his office,  and ask why these sections of my town are so much more dangerous than others. I’d certainly publish any response I got from him – I’d expect him to account for it.

There might even be a reason that these two areas are so dangerous – maybe it’s to do with the way the street furniture is laid out, or it might be that a local youth centre closed down five years ago, or maybe it’s that there are some dodgy bars…

All of these potential problems are something that we as citizens CAN and SHOULD do something about. Once we’ve got the information, we can’t just tut about it and shake our heads. It is up to us to regain control over our communities and ensure that we don’t abandon the people in these yellow streets.
