This is exactly what the internet is so great for.
Cyclists can see where accident blackspots are (only in London, admittedly). Freedom of information AND good use of the internet.
Update on 19th March: David’s article in the Spectator makes this argument over and over again: “giving people more information, more power and more control over their lives makes them more responsible.”
In this case, cyclists can a) choose to avoid these areas/be more carfeul, or b) lobby councils and TfL to make them safer. Preferably both. As it’s pressure from below, it’s more likely to work in a way that succeeds for the people who actually use these routes. And because it’s individuals who feel strongly about the issue, they are more likely to get involved and actively influence something they care about which will hopefully lead them to get involved in other areas as well.
