If we’re really being the change, why are we supporting anti-terrorist powers being used against people who want their children to have a good education? If we’re really being the change, why are we promoting political interference in investigations of corruption?
Part of why Britain needs a new government is because Labour’s authoritarian streak is damaging our civil liberties. Part of what a Conservative government should deliver is a reversal of the relationship between the state and the people – and Conservative councils using swingeing anti-terror laws (however badly drafted and implemented) to prosecute minor offences is wrong.
Part of why Britain needs a new government is the way that Labour have brought in laws which supposedly increase transparency (such as the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act on party funding, or the ratification of the UN Convention Against Corruption in 2006) and then abused them.
‘New politics‘ from the Conservatives has to really mean something – but given the Party’s stance on these two issues, I’m not convinced at the moment.

I completely agree with you. It is shocking to read that conservatives support the govt over the Saudi corruption scandal. Graeme
Very good series running on Mrs.T in the Telegraph. David Cameron has a short piece within it today which is excellent on principle and gives the lie to the view that used to prevale that he was not a conviction politician.
It is ridiculous for the Tories to put themselves in a position of opposing the rule of law. Laws should be followed by everyone including the government, who by the way are one of the largest law breakers in the county. It’s just another case of one law for us and another for the those with connections or influence. Tories are 100% wrong on this.
